Kaleidosonic is a screening and audiovisual live performance by Austrian filmmaker and experimental musician Billy Roisz, presented at Loop Festival in collaboration with Casa Seat. The proposal brings together the screening of the artist’s latest film, The Garden of Electric Delights (2025), alongside an accompaniment of Roisz’s new cinesonic live performance, Lunar Dust (2025). In response to the festival’s theme of Miratges Mirages, this intervention emphasises the optical and textural quality of sound as a point of entry into expansive audiovisual experiences, exploring ways in which the sonic generates its own mirages, interferences, and narratives.

The Garden of Electric Delights (2025) presents itself as an abstract allegory of Bosch’s iconic triptych, a dance of light and form. The film reverses cinematic sensorial hierarchies to explore how sound can drive the visual, generating flickering patterns that oscillate and transform in response to sonic impulses. Through kaleidoscopic forms and synaesthetic scapes, Roisz fuses experimental uses of analogue media with innovative AI techniques such as deep dreaming: a process in which generative neural networks reconfigure visual input into dreamlike textures. The screening is accompanied by Roisz’s newly crafted live audiovisual performance Lunar Dust (2025), where her sonic improvisations with turntables, cymbals, bass guitars, self-built electronic devices, and the materiality of the body reveal the mind’s tendency to perceive familiar shapes within oniric patterns. This live intervention will situate her practice within “expanded cinema”, where film ceases to be a fixed projection and instead becomes a performative, immersive environment in which sound, image, and corporeality coalesce.

Kaleidosonic thus guides us toward a sensorial encounter in which the moving image operates as an affective and embodied medium, and foregrounds the potential of sound to create its own illusions and destabilize the boundaries between what is seen, heard, and felt. The event is followed by a conversation and Q&A session with the artist. mediated by the curator, Júlia Polo.
